Why children are overrated

I have not posted here in a very long time, and this topic is somewhat unrelated to my blog. However, it has definitely been on my mind for some time.
If you walk into a children's hospital, it is usually brightly painted and decorated. The patients are made comfortable and the staff are rarely tempermental, kind and reassuring. In contrast, the adult hospital would be very different. The staff are usually impatient, rude and snappy with the clients. The same applies to residential care. The state regulates guidelines for mistreatment in children's homes, but abuse occurs frequently in nursing homes. I feel as if the adult population has been abandoned. While most adults should be working, some simply have a difficult time finding a job. There is little mercy for those over a certain age.
Children are sheltered. And this is wrong because it leads them to believe that they are the center of the universe. They are not. Parents complain about the media, as if it should not contain slightly mature content because of their precious offspring. If this is a problem, don't allow your kids to engage in it. Adults have needs too. Sexual needs. No one is bringing any thing into your home, nobody is forcing you to watch or listen to anything. A 22 year old may not want to hear elmo singing in wal mart, but they deal with it. Nothing in the public eye is too risque for young eyes. Parents are overprotective.
Children are regarded as divine beings, and to the parent, that makes sense. But in my experience, they are the rudest, meanest, and inconsiderate group ever. I am certain that this does not apply to all children, so I do not generalize. But the majority of them do not contribute to the world and still feel the need to comment on everything. They believe that they are superior, because we have made them out to be. "Kids will be kids" is a cop-out. I treat children (presumably ages 10-17) the same as everyone else. If a child violates a law, he or she should be punished, regardless of age.
I wish that I could request that no children respond to me over the internet, simply because the ones that have do not fully comprehend my statements and/or make some off topic, rude comment. However, if they can respond in a mature manner, I do not mind. Because I look young, kids often target me, assuming that I am open. A group of teenaged girls at the mall were taking my photo because my shoes were "different" (wedges with stripes). I wanted so badly to rip the Iphone out of the girl's hand and throw it across the store. Then I remembered that I am the adult. If I behave in such a manner, I am sinking down to that level. I most certainly believe that children should not be harmed, abused or neglected. But this should apply to everyone, from ages 0-150.
Stop making excuses, and stop complaining about adults being a part of society.
